A New & More Powerful Console?
>> Heres some interesting news:
A Tampa Bay area technology company, Infinium Labs Corporation, will develop and market a new game console that, it claims, will outperform the XBOX, Sony Playstation II, and GameCube.
Infinium Labs has engineered its prototypes and expects to unveil the new gaming console in March of 2003. The company intends to launch the game console to the U.S. consumer market by November 2003. Although technical details about the system, codenamed Phantom, are not available the company does not seem intimidated by the size and capabilities of its competitors.

New Release: XBE Renamer v0.2
>> A New XBE Renamer, this time with FTP Support! :)
XBE Renamer is a program which can modify the default Title Names for XBE's (XBox Executables). Some XBE's have the strangest Title Names which is annoying if using features like EvolutionX's or XBMP's autoadd applications/games.
XBE Renamer reads the current Title Name from the xbe-file (usually named 'default.xbe'). It then enables you to change the Title Name and save it back to the xbe-file. The application works both on xbe's on the harddrive and directly on the Xbox via FTP access.

Xbox loss widens
>> CNN Reports:
In a quarterly report with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Microsoft said it posted operating income of $1.97 billion in the December-ended quarter in its Windows-centered business unit on revenue of $2.44 billion. That was down from income of $2.11 billion and revenue of $2.68 billion a year earlier.
Microsoft's Home and Entertainment segment, which includes the Xbox, games for personal computers and the company's TV products, posted an operating loss of $348 million in the quarter on revenue of $1.28 billion. A year earlier it had revenue of $833 million and a loss of $180 million.
The company loses money on each Xbox it sells, with some analysts pegging the shortfall at more than $100 per $199 console, meaning that strong sales for the platform actually increase its losses.

Team Xodus announces Chameleon
>> Team Xodus announced a new modchip named Chameleon. It can be used as Matrix/Xodus 1m-addon or as new fully functional solder (wires/headerpin) modchip.
From xodus-chip.com
The long awaited 1 meg adapter is done, tested and working beautifully!! We have decided to give it our own pet name which describes its versatility, flexibility and unique qualities.
Meet “Chameleon”
Features include but not limited to ;-)
Solder less Adaptor (pure matrix add-on no soldering required)
- Mode 1 : 1x1Meg
- Mode 2 : 2x512k
- Mode2.5 : 2x512k with STEALTH TECHNOLOGY
- Mode 3 : 4x256k
- Mode 4 : 1x256k (+1x512k software selectable)
- Plus modes 1-3 of original Matrix still apply ;-)
Solder / Pin header
- Mode 1 : 1x1Meg
- Mode 2 : 2x512k
- Mode2.5 : 2x512k with STEALTH TECHNOLOGY
- Mode 3 : 4x256k
- Mode 4 : 1x256k + 1x256k protected + disable All selectable from front panel button combination (+1x512k software selectable)
- Plus SOFTWARE CONTROLABLE D0 and T1, think about it ;-)
Please note that we have only designed one product, the reason for the name Chameleon is because the end user, at his discretion can add or remove features and control as he or she wishes. The Chameleon can change and offer you the features you want according to how far you want to go. Weather you are using it as a Matrix Add-on or stand alone chip, the hardware has been designed to offer you limitless options for the future.
For the first time in the history of mod chips, we introduce SOFTWARE CONTROL. With some very innovative work from some special people we are able to bring to you a completely new and exciting realm of features. What Chameleon currently offers is just the tip of the iceberg and we are sure that with this technology under our belts the world of mod chips will never be the same.
All this and we are still able to keep to our promised retail price of $25 (you see we keep our promises!!)
Future Plans:
For the near future we are working on some really cool innovative ideas as well as some groundbreaking stuff. For the developer scene we will be announcing some really handy new tools soon. As far as mod chip development goes we promise some major features and applications never before thought possible!
Stay tuned!
Once again we would like to thank all of you for your continued support and of course for your loyalty and patience especially during the past few days. Remember our support team is dedicated and committed to answering any questions you may have. I am sure you will join us in thanking them for an outstanding job. Naturally, our thanks again to the incredibly talented and creative Evo-X team without whom many of these new features and innovations would not be possible. Great software guys! Thanks.
Software controlable D0 & T1 will probably allow to disable your modchip (D0 control) in the dashboard and I guess it will be possible to easily flash the onboard bios with xbox software (T1&D0 control).
Stealth technology will probably hide one of the 2 banks after booting.
They also posted some info about the recent problems with easybuy2000:
The bad news is that Easybuy2000 had been forced to shut its trading doors temporarily pending an investigation on other unrelated products being sold by them (please see their site for more details). Unfortunately, Matrix supplies have also been affected. Adding to this, the advent of the Chinese New Year has caused more delays in parts and unit supplies. We ask you to bear with us as we are working flat out to facilitate orders and clear the backlog.
Easybuy2000 will start shipping the Matrix modchip again soon (2-3weeks?).

Work In Progress: CX2 Xbox game
>> Not alot of info yet , but Team CX2 is developping a game for Xbox.
That's right, we have an Xbox game in development. The game of course will require a modded Xbox, and can be run from CD/DVD or the hard drive using evox/nexgen. Don't go expecting it to be released tomorrow or anything, my guess would be a March/April release (yep, this year). I can tell you that this game will be an original CX Games title, not a port of a classic arcade game like so many homebrew Xbox games are.

New Release: XNSCast v0.4
>> nonSense presents: XNSCast v0.4 by Tusse/nonSense (c) 2003(a Shoutcast to XNS stream relayer)
XNSCast is an experimental Shoutcast/Icecast stream relayer for use with XBMP. It works by presenting fake files to XBMP, and when these files are requested, a connection to a Shoutcast/Icecast- server is made, and data from the Shoutcast/Icecast stream is relayed to XBMP, imitating regular Relax behaviour. This means that you can finally Listen to Shoutcast radio using your Xbox!

XBOX Linux Cluster
>> Some interesting news for you linux people :-)
I was walking back from class thinking to myself I haven't done much in the way of parallel computing lately. So I thought it would be a interesting idea to test the usefulness of the XBOX platform as a cluster node, as the XBOX Linux project says they are useful as. At the same time I had heard a lot on various message boards that individuals were using the XBOX as a Linux desktop to check email and browse the web, etc, etc. So, I wrote a grant proposal to Saint Vincent College asking for funds to build a Linux cluster out of XBOXes. I was issued enough funds to purchase 3 units and accompanying hardware for the project.

XBox Saves Announces New Project
>> Some interesting news:
Project Name: Undecided (Vote in our xbox-saves.com forums)
Project Details:
Imagine a library of XBox Save Games presented to you the moment you turn on your XBox. You can freely swap your current saves with better ones available online as well as back up any saves you wish. With a simple press of a button, you can download the Save to your XBox and it will automatically place the save in the correct location for the game to load. This is our goal for this new homebrew application only for the XBox. No need for a PC to transfer your saves back and forth as this will be a single solution for all Windows, Linux, and Mac users. All that is necessary is an internet connection to the XBox and the application will list all saves available online.
However, for this idea to become reality, we will need your help. We are currently looking for experienced C++ and XBox Developers who are knowledgeable in using the XDK. You must be able to work well with others as this will be a team effort. This will be a great opportunity for anyone who wishes to take on this unique programming challenge for the XBox console.
If you are interested, please send us your background info to teamx4@xbox-saves.com.
We are also looking for GUI designers as well so if you are a graphics artist, shoot us an email.
Primary Objectives:
-- Access and Download online XBox Saves via HTTP and XML directly to the XBox
-- Backup/Restore/Delete Saves on XBox
-- Auto-archives Saves when swapping Game Saves (auto zip/unzip Saves)
-- On-Screen Keyboard (only used to set username/password and Saves sites)
-- User-friendly GUI similar to MS Dashboard's Memory Menu
Other Objectives:
-- Memory Card support
-- FTP access to local PC to retrieve Saves
-- USB Keyboard support
-- Upload your Saves to Online Library

Work In Progress: FBAx B3
>>
Just to recap on the things that I want to add for the next version (this is not exhaustive and doesnt include any of the cool things Lantus will no doubt add to the next verson):
* Save states
* Support for the FBA cheat files
* EEPROM settings will be saved
* Improved video rendering
Things that won't be in the next version (Anything in this list will very likely not be added to the next version, at least by me)
* Sega/Neogeo/other system Support: This cannot be added until the FBA team release a version of FBA with the driver included (no idea when this will be, so please don't ask)
* Netplay: This would be a cool feature but is unlikely to happen anytime soon

Work In Progess: xSnes9x v1.05
>> From lantus-x.com/xSnes9x
fixed most of the annoying 1.04 bugs, including the issue selecting HDTV modes when you didnt have the proper adapter for it and you'd be starting at a black screen forever until you deleted the .ini file yada yada
mentioned this in my forums - ive been playing with the very excellent xboxmediaplayer and SMB shares. Im very impressed with it and will be looking at implementing it in xSnes9x so you can load your roms remotely from a windows shared drive. This should also eliminate file length issues associated with copying files over to your xbox hdd. Need to say thanks to the XBMP dev team, without them none of this would be possible of course.

New Release: XBox Game Manager 1.0
>> What is it?
It's a simple ftp client that will view only 2 directories, your local hd's game root directory, and your xbox hd's game root directory. If you don't have the cash for a 120 gig hd for your xbox, why not just transfer your games back and forth? XGMan is simple, fast, and quite useful.
What's the point? I already have an ftp client.
I'm not trying to win anyone over. I use it because it's handy, and someone else might agree. It shows game sizes, and space left on your drives. It helps for planning out what games you can simultaneously fit. It also does upkeeping tasks like renaming games and deletion.
Features:
* Supports multiple game copy / deletion in one command
* Displays game sizes on both the xbox as well as pc
* Displays space free on xbox & pc
* Supports game renaming (handy for XBCopy001 directories etc..)
* Displays overall and per-file transfer progress

Work In Progress: XBFileZilla alpha
>> What's XBFileZilla:
XBFileZilla is a port of the FileZilla FTP server (http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla) to the XBox console.
There are two goals:
1. create a stable, fast ftp server that can be used as a module in other XBox software.
2. minimize the changes to the FileZilla sources, so that they can be updated with new releases without a minimum of effort.

I'm currently completing tests of the alpha version of XBFileZilla. All seems to be working, I'm getting download (xbox->pc) speed of 11 MB/s and upload (pc->xbox) speed of 6.5 MB/s. Some work needs to be done on tweaking the network parameters. Also the external interface to XBFileZilla to other homebrew apps needs to be written.

Microsoft, Vivendi in Video Game Talks
>> From Yahoo! News
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Investment bank Investec said on Friday that it believed Microsoft Corp. was in talks with French media conglomerate Vivendi Universal about buying Vivendi's video game business for as much as $2 billion.
Speculation has been rampant for months on the fate of Vivendi Universal Games, which publishes well-known PC titles like "WarCraft" and "Diablo" and games based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" books.

New Release: XB-FTP v0.61
>> What's new/fixed:
* fixed the dirsize listings a bit, bugs when it needs to read dirsizes on both sides.
* in honor of a huge file I was downloading - I've added resume and skip file on download ( still on test phase )
* stopped the options 7 byte memleak
* added more dynamics into harddisk mounting (look at ini-file), it's directly linked to my attempts to get 2 harddisks working in the xbox (require non-dvd bios)
* fixed so editor actually starts on F4
* fixed keyboard on change dir, rename and a few others. Blink as well as return and escape
* added to mark files ( yea I simply loved norton commander's style in the DOS days )
* switched to savegame 0x080275da - I was drunk during some of the releases and accidentaly made it use 0x080275ad - which would cause your serverlist to "disappear" (sorry about that, 080275da from now on)
* added DNS lookup, with and autodetection if it's been given a IP or something that gotta go through DNS.
* Changed the server-add from using numpad on ip - to keyboard. A bit more hassle when adding ip's, but I didn't see many options with DNS names.
* Added manual update from random servers with a proper encryption set.
* Added the option to change various colors
